This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) defines what’s allowed on shrug.games servers. Violating this policy may result in suspension or termination of your service.
The short version
Don’t do anything illegal. Don’t harm others. Don’t abuse resources. Don’t make our lives difficult.
Prohibited activities
Illegal stuff
- Hosting content that violates any applicable law
- Copyright infringement (pirated games, stolen assets)
- Distributing malware, exploits, or hacking tools
- Facilitating illegal gambling (where prohibited)
- Any activity that could get us or you in legal trouble
Harmful content
- Harassment, threats, or doxxing
- Hate speech or content promoting violence
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) - this results in immediate termination and law enforcement report
- Content designed to harm minors
Network abuse
- DDoS attacks or participation in botnets
- Port scanning or probing other systems without permission
- Sending spam or phishing
- Running open proxies or relays for malicious traffic
- Attacking or attempting to compromise our infrastructure or other customers
Resource abuse
- Cryptocurrency mining (unless it’s part of the actual game mechanics)
- Running non-game services that consume excessive resources
- Circumventing resource limits or quotas
- Using your game server as a general-purpose VPS
Account abuse
- Creating multiple accounts to abuse trials or promotions
- Sharing account credentials with unauthorized users
- Selling or transferring accounts without permission
- Impersonating shrug.games staff
Fair use
Our servers are for game hosting. Running a Minecraft server? Great. Running a game server plus a small website for your community? Probably fine. Running a crypto miner and a torrent client alongside your game? No.
If you’re unsure whether something is allowed, ask us at support@shrug.games before doing it.
Enforcement
We handle violations based on severity:
Warning
For minor or first-time violations, we’ll reach out and ask you to fix the issue. Most problems end here.
Suspension
For repeated violations or more serious issues, we may temporarily suspend your server until the issue is resolved.
Termination
For severe violations (illegal activity, network attacks, CSAM), we terminate immediately without warning or refund.
We reserve the right to decide which category a violation falls into. We’re not lawyers, but we’ll try to be fair.
Appeals
If you believe your account was suspended in error, you can appeal by emailing support@shrug.games. Include your account email and explain why you think the suspension was a mistake.
We’ll review appeals within 7 business days and let you know the outcome.
Note: Terminations for illegal content (CSAM, network attacks, or other severe violations) are final and not subject to appeal.
Reporting violations
If you see another user violating this policy, email abuse@shrug.games with details.
Cooperation with law enforcement
We comply with valid legal requests from law enforcement — subpoenas, court orders, warrants. Informal requests without proper legal process will be declined.
We’ll notify you if we receive a request for your data unless we’re legally prohibited from doing so.
Changes
We may update this policy as needed. Continued use of the service means you accept the current policy.
